04-08-2010 |
Singer Songwriter/Rock/Pop www.myspace.com/pineandbattery www.jeffcampbellmusic.com www.meganslankard.com 9pm-12am / Free Show! Jeff Campbell is a natural, and any lover of music can see that when performing, he is doing what he was born to do. This young singer-songwriter was brought up in a musical family with constant exposure to artists and performers from the last six decades. These artists have influenced a songwriting style, a mix of raw rock and winding lyrical melodies, which continues to evolve within him through the years. Touring and performing through countless venues on the East Coast, Campbell put his nose to the grindstone and built a fast and steady reputation and faithful following, selling out venues in New York and Pennsylvania on a regular basis. A Philadelphia native, Campbell moved to San Francisco in 2004 specifically for the Rock scene he had heard was developing. It was here that, in addition to his solo efforts, Campbell started writing, recording and performing as front man for the San Francisco-based rock band Pine & Battery (sonicbids.com/pineandbattery), which garners the newest editions to his catalogue of original music. Megan Slankard "Nearly everyone who encounters this attractive and sophisticated singer-songwriter agrees that she has 'star' written all over her," says Acoustic Guitar Magazine about Megan Slankard. "She forges a distinctive sound with her smooth and courageous vocal dynamics, intelligent and diverse song styles, and sheer infectious enthusiasm."

And the arrangements provided by the band are praiseworthy." Tom Hyslop-Blues Review "I had the pleasure of hearing Ann Kerstetter's Band at the International Blues Challenge this year and was really taken with their performance. Great musicality combined with Ann's beautifully rendered vocals had the crowd hooked and wanting more. Ann has assembled an excellent band to back her smoky vocals and this is a dynamic combination. Don't miss an opportunity to hear them live when they play in your town." Brett Fleming-Soul Stew WEVL FM 89.9 Memphis "Ann Kerstetter's vocals are powerful, and filled with emotion. The musicians surrounding her are tight. » Michael Morrow & the 21st Centurians |
04-16-2010 |
Funk/Psychedelic/Jam Band www.myspace.com/mm21cents MM21Cents.com Must See Show! 10 PM - Close / Five Dollars You saw them Saturday of Mardi Gras! Twentyfirst Centurians are a powerfunk jamband from Philadelphia with a unique, yet familiar sound that captivates, moves and engages the most discerning fans. Led by veteran psychedelic guitarist Michael Morrow, the group affectionately known as "21 Cents" rests on the bomb-ass pocket of drummer Gerald Williams and the amazing Ryan Hickey on bass keys/organ. Described by a fan as "...like Soulive with Garcia sitting in at Maceo's birthday party..." MM and 21 Cents are one of the most talked about and upcoming jam acts on the East Coast. Last Spring they were voted winners of Relix Jam-Off Contest 2009, and was also featured on the RELIX compilation disc and in the September edition. A Rochester NY promoter told the crowd at his recent festival "...see this band now, right before they make it..."
Main man Michael Morrow has remained a sought after touring guitarist and vocalist, performing across the US for over a decade, working with touring acts like Living Earth (Relix), Mystic Rebel, Ihi Yahn Ihi Arkestra (Inity) and Slide (Ikon). Michael also recently produced music for developing artists like Funk Church, Shan Egan, TV music for Phila based firm St. Lewes Productions, voice-over sessions and also placed songs in the award winning film "No Boundaries". Brookyn drummer Gerald Williams spent years with Mark Furman Band and provides the most killer grooves imaginable. But even with those three big hitters, the notable member is brilliant keyboardist Ryan Hickey, who does a magical job of whipping up sticky funky bass lines with his left hand and soulful organ with his right. The band has been recieving rave reviews for it's unique and power packed jam funk approach and catchy, street wise songs.

» The Charles Walker Blues Band |
04-17-2010 |
Regional Blues/R&B/Funk/Soul www.myspace.com/walkerbluesband www.walkerband.com Five Dollars /10pm-1am Area Debut! CHARLES WALKER BAND WATERS ROOTS IN WILLIAMSPORT April 17, 2009 - 10:00 PM The Charles Walker Band, appearing at Bullfrog Brewery April 17th, has rifled through America’s musical history and uprooted anything with soul. The Milwaukee based five piece band performs funk, R&B, and blues, while completely blurring the lines of all three genres. This female fronted band, though unique in style, sounds like Sly and the Family Stone meets Sharon Jones and keeps the audience on the floor in every city they hit. The band is on tour for the exciting release of their fifth CD “Used and Defiant,” which has been described in Soul Bag magazine as “[An] entire album [that] grooves deeply and there is never a dull moment, proving the band’s tremendous genius…An album with diversity, spontaneity, and wholly gratifying, this album appeals to a wide spectrum of listeners.” To sample the band’s sound or order any of their catalogue, check out www.walkerband.com which hosts a streaming player of their latest work. Charles Walker, tenor saxophone, keyboard, songwriter & band leader, received formal jazz training at UW Eau Claire, playing saxophone for over 20 years. He has played with such greats as Big Al from New Orleans and JJ Johnson at BB’s in St. Louis and his band has opened for BB King, Earth, Wind and Fire, Aaron Neville and Booker T. Muziczine describes him as “Particularly inventive, Walker is a musician bursting with talent. Well capable of building a melody line, his tenor sax thrusts through the mix powerfully” (4/6/09).
Porsche Carmon, lead vocals, was born and raised in Columbus, OH. Porsche’s vocal talent was first discovered at the age of twelve during her first musical theater audition for The Me Nobody Knows. After a decade of musical “silence,” Porsche re-discovered her passion for musical performance in 2001 and began performing on the Milwaukee scene, eventually sharing the stage with notable talents in New York, Chicago, and Milwaukee such as Jon Pairs, Vic Valenti & Walters Chicago Bands, and the Milwaukee Bucks house band Streetlife w/ Warren Wiegratz. In 2010 she joined the Charles Walker Band, where she sings both lead and backup vocals, and plays congas & percussion. The Door County’s Peninsula Pulse said of her talent, “Carmon’s soaring gospel-soul singing, recalls the days of Motown.” The band’s first appearance at Bullfrog Brewery promises to be energizing and dance oriented. The show begins at 9:00 and is their first stop out East. They will be headed to the Cape May Jazz Festival April 18 at noon and then Warmdaddies in Philadelphia also April 18 at 7:00 pm.

» Milquetoast & Co. |
04-19-2010 |
Rock/Americana/Classical /Soul www.sonicbids.com/milquetoastco www.myspace.com/milquetoastco 9pm-12am / Free Show! Area Debut! With the independent release of their debut album Drinking and Smoking Too Much With Women I Hate, Boston’s Milquetoast & Co. bring together years of do-it-yourself hard work and creativity with the wry, witty, no-nonsense re-telling of hard nights and harder days that has come to epitomize the band’s sound. Milquetoast & Co. has respectfully declined to join a particular genre by freely crossing the lines between Rock, Southern Blues and Rockabilly while sprinkling in a touch of classical and soul to keep things interesting. Milquetoast & Co. began as dynamic singer/songwriter “Restless” James McAndrew’s solo project in the summer of 2004. Originally called simply “Milquetoast,” the music has grown over time to include cello (Robin Ryczek), bass (Joe Mageary), Drums (Panama Quinn) and a litany of other instruments to fill out their sound (Bill Whitney). Together, their music has drawn comparisons to Tom Waits, Morphine and Jeff Buckley, among others. In late 2008, Milquetoast added “& Co.” to their name as a tribute to the revolving door of band members and on-stage performers that has swirled around the band since its inception. Boasting a lineup that has rivaled The Village People in its diversity, from homeless man to Harvard scientist, and touting experience that includes punk, metal, classical and eastern European Gypsy ensembles, Milquetoast & Co. tackle the task of being equally edgy and accessible in an effort to stick their fingers into the crack between chaos and commonplace and scoop out the creativity that nests inside. Their “everyone’s invited” ethos has translated into an array of songs that make a Milquetoast & Co. performance nothing if not memorable. From the haunting melodies of Bracing Yourself to the kitschy yet catchy kazoos in the eponymous Mr. Milquetoast to the full-bore explosion of Cigarette Burns, Milquetoast & Co. have a song for every palate and a set list for every venue, leaving nothing to be desired. 04-26-2010 |
Indie/Folk/Pop http://www.ernestjenning.com/ www.myspace.com/lastradanyc 9pm-12am / Free Show! *donations accepted* Area Debut! Currently residing in Brooklyn, NY, The members of the band are comprised of: Daniel Baer (violin), James Craft (accordion, guitar and vocals), Brady Miller (drums), Ted Lattis (guitar) and Devon Press (bass, guitar, and accordion). Combining beautiful harmonies with old world sounds of the accordion, La Strada creates a new sect of charming romanticism rock with swelling orchestral arrangements. The beauty of La Strada is the band's ability to remain lyrically genuine and trapeze the line between old world sounds and rock melodies. The distinct sound of La Strada has not gone unnoticed. La Strada has been on the Indie radar for a little while, accumulating critic's acclaim, and will be featured on a Where the Wild Things Are behind the scenes trailer and an episode of Jason Schwartzman's new show, Bored to Death on HBO.

04-29-2010 |
Jazz/Post-Punk/Fusion www.theweetrio.com www.myspace.com/theweetrio 9pm-12am / Three Dollar Cover Don't miss their return! On their debut recording, Capitol Diner Vol. 1, their superb original compositions, and “standards” by composers Kurt Cobain, Sufjan Stevens, and Thelonious Monk, are brought to life with an ingenious combination of jazz, rock, fusion, post-punk, and references to other genres thrown in for good measure. The best part is, it all “swings” like nobody's business. This is a band born and raised in Brooklyn, with their first recording brilliantly embodying the borough's energy, eclecticism and excellence. The Wee Trio is unlike any other band around, simply, but not completely, based on what each member brings to the table and how that blends with the other two. The group's attitude (that reveals itself in the music) is unique in that they use a trio of approaches to music that are native to specific regions of the U.S. Bassist Dan Loomis explains, “the cool thing about this group is how it uses the New Orleans aesthetic of just going to the gig and hitting . . . listening and making it work on a ‘street' level, i.e. connecting right to the audience, which is also a Midwest/St. Louis aesthetic too; and then combining that with the more New-York/Brooklyn aesthetic of getting in the music on an intellectual/artistic level and moving things forward.”
