» Benyaro - Debut from NYC!

Indie/Roots/Acoustic/Soul

Free Show!

8 PM - 11 PM

Benyaro, Jackson Hole and New York City's indie acoustic soul and roots power duo, has a sound reminiscent of "early Tom Waits" (KBGA- Missoula, MT), "acoustic David Bowie" (WESU- Middletown, CT), and "if you’re a fan of The Band or their modern-day counterparts The Avett Brothers, there’s a good chance you’ll take a shine to Good Day Better" (NASHVILLE SCENE). According to RELIX magazine's Jan/Feb 2011 issue, Benyaro is "on the verge...indie acoustic soul power." Their 2 albums (Benyaro and Good Day Better) have spent time on the CMJ Top 200 and over 120 radio stations across the world spin the music. Lead singer Ben Musser's voice has been dubbed "a strange amalgamation of Cat Stevens and Axl Rose" (YES! WEEKLY). Knowing this, one can expect Benyaro to deliver an intense, emotional, and upbeat performance. Musser and upright bassist Bobby McCullough combine their voices and instruments with feeling and honesty, drawing audiences into their world of soul, folk, country, rock, blues, gospel and beatboxing/house. Though only two performers, one is treated to the sound of a full acoustic band as they play percussion with feet, nylon string guitar and upright bass with hands and sing together with conviction. PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS writes Good Day Better offers a "campfire hoot of a sound endowed with warm tunes and tight harmonies.

» The Synergy Band (Noble Jones Project)- Renewed and Revived!

Bluegrass

Five Dollars

9 PM - 12 PM

What started out as the Noble Jones Project has been reassembled today as Synergy. Back in January of 1995 five friends got together in the warmer climates of Bob Rubin’s recording studio to spend the day creating music togeth-er. What began almost 17 years ago as a pickin’ session they simply wanted to record eventually developed into an album mixed and mastered by Bill Wolf and David Glaser that would go on to receive four star reviews from both the LA Times and Chicago Tribune as well as rave reviews from Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine. Due to their various commitments at the time touring internationally with such act’s as The McKrells, The Hickory Project and The David Bromberg Band, Synergy was not in a position to promote the magic they had captured on that January day, but that’s all about to change. Allow me to introduce to you SYNERGY.

Craig Vance – Guitar – Goshen, NY
“Laz,” as he’s known, has been creating music since childhood. He began his career as a solo act opening for such noteworthy performers as Doc & Merle Watson, The Country Gentlemen and Berline, Crary and Hickman. He has performed with master guitarist Norman Blake as well as toured with Bill Keith, Frank Wakefield, The McKrells and the Hickory Project throughout the United States and Canada. He has shared the stage with such well-known artists as Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, The Furey Brothers, Bela Fleck, Eric Weisberg, Tony Trischka, Mike Marshall, Travis Tritt, Lonestar and many more. Craig has taken first place honors at numerous guitar picking competitions including Sugar Grove Fiddlers Convention and the Chilhowie Bluegrass Festivals to name a few. Craig is a contributing Columnist for the bi monthly Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. Craig has enjoyed playing the likes of Carnegie Hall, Berkley Performing Arts Center, Lincoln Center and many other fine venues throughout the US and abroad.

Chris Leske – Banjo/Mandolin – Saratoga Springs, NY
“Bullets” began getting noticed taking first place honors in New York and New England banjo competitions as a young teen in the early 70's. In 1984, Chris earned First Place in the National Banjo Championship at the famous Walnut Valley Competition in Winfield, Kansas. Chris's abilities on lead guitar were featured on two European tours (1981 and 1982) with world renowned banjo master Mr. Bill Keith and Nashville producer Jim Rooney. He was accepted for a banjo seat at Opryland USA the same year, but declined- favoring the opportunity to tour France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Sicily with his then favorite bluegrass duo. Chris appeared in NYC's Carnegie Hall in 1995, and toured Ireland frequently with the McKrells.

Anthony Hannigan - Mandolin - Chambersburg, PA
Anthony has been playing since the age of 4. A human rocket on the mandolin, Anthony is also accomplished on the guitar and fiddle as well. He is the founder of the globally acclaimed Hickory Project as well as the Blue Merles. As an accomplished song writer Anthony has even enjoyed success at the top of the charts with Blues Of Your Love which went all the way to number one. He has played some of the finest festivals and stages around the globe and is the 1999 National Mandolin Picking Champion from the famous Walnut Valley Competition in Winfield, KS. Anthony has toured extensively across the United States, Europe, Ireland, Australia and more and has shared the stage with some of biggest names in bluegrass including Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, Frank Wakefield and Vassar Clements to name a few.

Jeff Wisor – Fiddle – Addison, NY
Born into a musically oriented family, Jeff has been creating music his entire life. He began playing fiddle at age 15 playing round/square dances in the Corning, NY area. After a stint in the US Army, Jeff began making music with the likes of the Mississippi Gamblers, Voices of Blue Grass, Eddie Addcock and the Second Generation, the Hickory Project and many others. Jeff has been seen on stage with such legendary acts as Bob Dylan, Frank Wakefield, Liz Meyer and Bill Keith and has even spent 30 years on tour with David Bromberg. Truly accomplished, Jeff has won many fiddle contests including the New York State Championship and has received accolades the country over including from the Smithsonian Institute. Jeff has played with many well-known artists on the stages of the Grand Ole Opry as well as that of Carnegie Hall.

Steve Belcher – Bass – Woolrich, PA
Steve began his love affair with music in the 60’s. His roots began to weave the foundation upon which he gravitated naturally to Bass especially as his love of music began to focus on the acoustic and bluegrass direction in the 70’s. Steve started the band Burnt Toast and is one of the original members of the internationally acclaimed Hickory Project. Having developed a natural gift for promoting events, Steve started the Canyon Country Bluegrass Festival and helped found the Hickory Fest. He’s played many wonderful festivals both large and small the world over and many grand venues including one of his favorites The Kennedy Center. Steve has backed the likes of Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Bill Keith and Frank Wakefield to name a few.

» Driftwood from Binghamton, NY

Americana/Folk/Rock

Five Dollars

10 PM - 1 AM

To understand the hype surrounding this self proclaimed “Shanty Rock” quartet out of Binghamton, NY, catch them at a festival or club and you will surely not be disappointed. But to really see why they are catching so much buzz, follow them around for a few shows.

Climbing out of two hatchbacks one by one, they rustle out a Banjo, Guitar, Violin and a Bass and start to warm up before a show in a small café in New Paltz, NY. They play for maybe 75 people and are off to play a rock club in Providence, RI the next night. They play the opening slot for maybe 45 people and are off to New York City for a nighttime show in the village but they start the day in Washington Square playing for tips. From show to show, whether there’s three hundred people or five, a stage, lights, or just a sidewalk with some foot traffic there is one constant: there is something so unbelievably contagious and sincere about the music that flows out of them that no matter where they are, people listen.

It is obvious that there is a strong influence from the traditional American Roots/ Rock artists such as, Bob Dylan or The Band or even Hank Williams, along with the modern Americana of today like Old Crow Medicine Show, the Decemberists or The Avett Brothers. But there is another side to this band that pays homage to the Pop Rock of the 60’s, the simple straight forward lines of the Classical Period and even the more obscure, popular songwriters of today such as Regina Spektor or Jack White. Whatever the influences or the sounds, from ballads to up tempo rock feels, the songs are beautiful and the energy is off the chart.

Formed in late 2005, the band spent about four years playing just about anywhere they could. “We just wanted to be able to play for any crowd and turn heads” says banjo player Joe Kollar. “We played everywhere. Coffee houses, bars, churches, rock clubs, bluegrass festivals and the streets…a lot on the streets. We didn’t make any money but what we learned was invaluable”.

After the release of their Debut CD “Rally Day” in 2009 the band has spent most of the last 3 years on the road. With Club and festival appearances up and down the East Coast with artists such as Bela Fleck, Del McCoury, Rusted Root, Donna the Buffalo and Railroad Earth they are quickly gaining recognition as one of the fastest rising Americana acts in the Northeast.

"Today these old-time sounds are being fused with more modern influences of rock n roll; and bands like Binghamton-base

d Driftwood are moving right along pace with today's most popular Electronica acts, breaking ground, strings, and expectations by drawing on our roots to create a sound that speaks to us all."
- Kayla MacLachlan, Upstate Live Magazine

» XvsK (Exter vs. Kimock)

Experimental/Rock/Improv

Three Dollars

10 PM - 1 AM

Trevor Exter and John Kimock have a unique chemistry as musicians,  providing hard-hitting yet tender music that wrings the depth of drums and cello. , Sounding at once modern and tribal,  they take over with a driving groove and passionate lyrics. At their shows people often say that it sounds like a full band,  even though there are just two of them. They don't use loops,  but sometimes they do. Mostly they just floor it., The 37-year-old cellist and singer and 21-year-old John Kimock – yes,  he’s the son of famed guitarist Steve Kimock – form the duo Exter vs. Kimock,  an acoustic rock group that’s not afraid to dabble in a smidge of improvisation.

10 PM - 1AM

The Kalob Griffin Band, a Philadelphia based group better known to their devoted fan base as “KGB,” strives to provide listeners on and off stage with a unique, energetic, and personalized experience that encourages people to come together and have a fun time.

In the summer of 2012, the Kalob Griffin Band is independently releasing their debut album, “June Found a Gun” off of their label, There He is Records.  After forming at Penn State in 2009 and undergoing various personnel changes, the Americana rockers released a self-titled EP in the spring of 2010 and have since been continuously touring and developing an active, engaging fan base that has turned into more of a family.

Kalob Griffin (vocals/guitar), Rob Dwyer (guitar/mandolin/banjo), Eric Lawry (drums/vocals), John Hildenbrand (keyboards/vocals), and Nick Salcido (electric/upright bass) compose this troop of musicians who come together to create a sound and live show that some would say is immediately original, a bit familiar, and certainly contagious.

Recorded at Milkboy Studios in Ardmore, Pa., the twelve-track “June” aims to get your feet moving and voice belting while broadening the landscape of the Americana genre by combining various influences.  They’ve just begun to develop a name for themselves as fun-loving, uninhibited rock n’ rollers who exhibit an artistic vision committed to being fan-centric and experience driven. Let’s wait and see what’s next…
